Northern Spire over the River Wear

Made in Belgium with an added dimension

The Northern Spire is the first new bridge in 40 years to span the River Wear in Sunderland in the north-east of England. The bridge will improve connections between the motorway, city centre and seaport but also provides the city with an eye-catching landmark. As if its size and iconic nature were not enough, there is another thing that makes this bridge special: the elaborate methodology used to transport and install the pylon in a single piece. This added an extra dimension to this distinctive Belgian-made steel bridge.
