White-painted steel is common theme in major renovations
From the outside it looks like an old, terraced house, but once inside you find a contemporary unit comprising a home and a studio space that function independently of each other and each have their own entrance on the street and garden side. The renovation budget was modest, so structural work was kept to a minimum: a small annex was added at the back on the ground floor, but otherwise only the connections between the existing rooms were changed to allow them to be used for their new functions. The former stairway hall made way for an impressively tall open staircase that rises from a spacious open-plan lounge. The choice of materials and detailing has been kept simple, with uniform yet sophisticated, white-painted steel forming the common thread running through all new elements. The single colour and the use of tensile steel give the interior spaces a light and airy character.
