Part 10: Technical Software Specification for Composite Beams 10 - 7 1 SCOPE This document is aimed at software developers to enable them to develop a simple software tool for the design of composite beams in multi-storey buildings, according to EN 1994-1-1 [1] . This document can also been regarded as a guide to understand the functioning of existing software in the same field of application. This guide does not contain programming code; it only contains detailed technical requirements. This document covers simply supported composite beams comprising a rolled profile connected by welded shear studs to a concrete slab. Several options are considered: Primary or secondary beams Plain slab or slab with profiled steel sheeting Fully propped or unpropped beams during construction. These technical requirements include: The calculation of internal forces and moments The verifications of the beam for ULS The calculations for SLS The calculation of the composite beam is based on the plastic resistance using full or partial connection. The design procedure is summarized in the flowcharts given in Appendix A.
